Amy Bliss, PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, Specialty Instructor
and Emergency First Response First Aid Instructor
Even as a young child, I was amazed by the wonders of the ocean. I quickly added the adventures of scuba diving to my life, learning to dive at 16. I grew up in Victoria, BC and lived there for the most part up until moving to Fort St John in 2012.
As an adult, I have truly made scuba diving a part of my life. After completing a refresher course with Wilson Diving in 2005, I travelled to Australia and lived in New Zealand. I did a lot of diving while abroad and completed my PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course on the Great Barrier Reef. After returning to Victoria in 2006, I became part of the Wilson Diving team and became a PADI Divemaster through the shop in 2008. I became an ACUC (American and Canadian Underwater Certification) Open Water Instructor in 2010 and an SSI (Scuba Schools International) Open Water Instructor in 2011. I became a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Open Water Scuba Instructor in 2012. For 6 years, I worked in the shop, taught diving courses and continued my personal professional development with Wilson Diving.
Living on Vancouver Island, I had the luxury of diving at some of the best diving sites in the world. On the island, we can simply walk into the ocean and dive. Vancouver Island's ocean is home to many amazing and unique marine animals, many of which I have had the opportunity to see up close. My experience diving and teaching on the island has made me a skilled and confident scuba diver and instructor. I have also had the opportunity to explore the waters of Belize, Cuba, Mexico and the Galapagos Islands.
After 12 years of teaching diving in Fort St John, I am moving on to my next adventure, and my little scuba business will close on June 15th, 2024. I am excited to move back to Vancouver Island but sad to say goodbye to Fort St John. I am immensely grateful for the support I have received from the community and for the opportunity to connect so many people in the north to the amazing world of scuba. And I have loved the opportunity to advance my skills while diving at altitude in beautiful lakes in the Peace River Region!
While I won't be conducting dive training courses in Fort St John anymore, I am still available to serve as your local scuba connection. Don't hesitate to reach out if you want to learn to scuba dive or advance your dive training. I can recommend another dive shop for you to work with, or perhaps you'd like to visit me on the island for your training!
Thank you for all of your support over the years, Amy
